As Christians mark the resurrection of Christ this Easter, Representative Bamidele Salam, representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State in the National Assembly, has urged Nigerians to embrace the season not just as a religious observance, but as a national metaphor, a call to rise above bitterness, injustice, and despair toward a more compassionate and purposeful nation.
In a heartfelt message released through his media Assistant, Joshua Afolabi, Rep. Salam described Easter as “a divine invitation to rediscover the strength in sacrifice and the courage in love.”
“Easter is not merely a celebration of an ancient miracle, it is a reminder that death is never the end of a righteous cause, and that light always emerges, however long the night,” he said.
He drew parallels between the crucifixion story and the present condition of the Nigerian people, saying, “Our nation has endured its own seasons of betrayal, trial, and agony. But just as the stone was rolled away from the tomb, so too must we roll away the stones of injustice, poverty, and disunity that have kept our collective destiny buried.”
Rep. Salam challenged both leaders and citizens to live out the virtues of the Easter season, selflessness, truth, and forgiveness.
He emphasized that true leadership must go beyond political rhetoric to become a daily commitment to uplifting the voiceless and restoring hope in broken places.
He also used the occasion to celebrate the resilience of the people in his constituency and across Nigeria, acknowledging the economic hardships and insecurity many still face.
“I see the quiet strength in our traders, our teachers, our farmers. I hear the silent prayers of our youth and our elders. Easter tells us that those prayers are not in vain,” he noted.
Rep. Salam concluded with a charge to all Nigerians: “Let this Easter be more than a tradition. Let it be a turning point. If Christ rose, then so can we, as individuals, as communities, and as a nation.”
