The 2024 US Open final is highly anticipated and promises to give emotions to fans. Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz will face off on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium to claim the season’s final Grand Slam. The world number 1 is the top favourite according to bookmakers, although he is not expressing his best tennis at Flushing Meadows.

The 23-year-old from San Candido is not playing at the same level as shown at the Australian Open or late last year, but his mental strength and ability to play well the important points are making a difference in New York. The 2024 Australian Open champion has lost only two sets so far, in the first round against McDonald and in the quarterfinals against Daniil Medvedev. The Italian ace suffered a minor wrist injury during the semi-final against Jack Draper due to a fall, but it should not be anything serious.
Fritz – on the other hand – will have the support of his fans and he will play with less pressure being the underdog. The American dreams of a memorable achievement, which would allow him to make a breakthrough in his career. Taylor loves these fields and is very insidious thanks to his servant, but the feeling is that Sinner is more complete and has a greater mental strength.
The title is very close
Jannik could win his second Major title this year by equaling Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, while Fritz looks to win the first Grand Slam of his career.

When he decided to separate from Riccardo Piatti, Jannik Sinner immediately turned to Simone Vagnozzi. The Italian coach, together with the new members of the team formed by the South Tyrolean, has built a project that could allow Sinner to compete at the highest levels with continuity. And that’s exactly what is happening in this incredible season. After winning the Cincinnati Masters 1000, the blue man will have the chance to get his hands on the US Open trophy and win his second career Slam. In an interview with SuperTennis, Vagnozzi focused on the work he has done since the beginning to find himself in this position.
“Jannik played a bit tight in the first two sets, sometimes he was not as strong when he had the ball to close but he raised the level and important moments. He was the favourite in a Grand Slam semi-final, and it’s his fourth, not something that happens every day,” explained Vagnozzi as he analysed the match against Jack Draper. “I’m not very emotional, I always try to stay focused on work. Sometimes when you’re on this ride, you don’t really know what you’re doing. Two and a half years ago when we started this journey, our goal was to bring Jannik to a level where he could go down in all tournaments. And this is what he has done continuously this year. A Grand Slam final is not an easy goal to achieve, we hope to make the last step on Sunday.”
There is a clear favourite
Only five players have managed to collect at least 22 wins in the Grand Slam tournaments since 2001: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Jannik Sinner. The South Tyrolean joined this magnificent club thanks to the success achieved against Jack Draper in the semi-final of the US Open.
Numbers that confirm the status now achieved by the Italian, able this year to “replicate” the achievements of the past by the Big 4. To win the second Slam in his career, Sinner will have to beat Taylor Fritz in a final that will see him compete against the home player on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Former ATP ace Paolo Bertolucci, in an editorial for the newspaper ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, wanted to reiterate the category of which Sinner is part. “Despite the significant warnings last autumn I never expected to live a 2024 so bursting and meaningful. The huge progress shown in this fantastic year allows Jannik to enter the very large circle and start making comparisons without risking being irreverent,” wrote the former Italian tennis player.
“We have a champion in all respects, that the whole world envies us. It is us who must taste together with him the pleasure of success. The main merit of this ‘boom’ can only be attributed to Jannik, who after winning the first position worldwide not only defended it, but pushed on the accelerator, Distancing even more direct opponents through successes achieved on different surfaces”. Fans hope to see a well-balanced and competitive final, even if the odds are very much in favor the world number 1.
