Andy Murray reveals: “I didn’t realize it was my 1000th match!”

The Scottish champion reached the 2nd round of the Queen’s Club Championships by beating Alexei Popyrin in three sets, analyzing the matches in the on-court interview

Andy Murray celebrated his 1000th career match in the best way possible. The Scot scored a wonderful victory against Alexei Popyrin in the 1st round of the Queen’s Club Championships, in the tournament which he has won five times (record). The British champion, close to retirement between the Wimbledon Championships and the Paris Olympics, beat the Australian in between sets, with the final score of 6-3 3-6 6-3, at the end of an exciting match, which he showed the attitude of a champion like the Scot who never wants to give up.

In the on court interview, under the moved eyes of his mother Judy, Andy analyzed the match, explaining how, a few weeks before Wimbledon, he wants to accumulate minutes in his legs, in order to arrive in London prepared from an athletic and mental point of view.

“Obviously during the match it’s difficult. In the end it was a great reward for the hard work and effort I put into the match. I didn’t get many victories this year. It was a difficult season. But in the end I did well to do it. Every victory you can get is important. That’s why we’re playing. To try to win the games. With Wimbledon just a few weeks away I want to try to gain some confidence and get some games under my belt the way I fought and came back in the lead in the third set after losing the 2nd. It’s great to get another win here,” he told.

Regarding his 1000th match on Tour, Murray explained: “I didn’t realise, my mum told me it’s my 1000th match on the Tour. A lot of matches and a lot of wear and tear on my body. It’s not easy. But I’m doing it.”
