Joao Fonseca has been the great sensation of the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro few months ago, the 17-year-old Brazilian made the crowd rave at home, where he reached the quarterfinals. In a long interview with the official ATP website, Joao Fonseca reflected on his rise: “I just play tennis, play for fun. I was in Rio with all my family watching, and here it will be the same. I will just enjoy. Obviously, I want to win as many matches as I can but it’s just to enjoy, appreciate this place and enjoy the opportunity that I have.”
He also added: “Obviously, I wanted to go as fast as I could to the ATP Tour, but it’s step by step. After Rio and after Bucharest, I made a real big jump. It’s really nice and I’ve seen my expectations go faster than I could imagine. Now, step by step, I am trying to enter the ATP Tour. That is where I want to be.”
On the list there are many dreams to fulfill and Fonseca reveals which are the largest that inhabit his mind. ” My big dream is to be number one in the world and win a Grand Slam. Wimbledon is my favorite major.
The road is long and requires work. I keep my feet on the ground because that’s how dreams come true. But if you don’t believe in yourself, who will?” he explained. The Fonseca idol has 20 Grand Slams, a role model, but also has young figures as a reference.
